They look a little silly at the moment, but at the same time, there’s virtually no risk to them on this deal.  They didn’t write any checks to Nikola.

another reason why Mary Barra needs to be ousted due to sheer incompetence.

I keep hearing “I’m sure GM did their due diligence thoroughly”

I’m thinking, eh maybe not so much?

When is the last time GM actually did do its due diligence in something?

I’m thinking the design of the new Corvette, the Bolt, or the Volt . Their engineering seems generally not bad, but the business side of things...

GM is finally getting it toge ther on the business side of things since Barra came on. Even their CFO was recently poached by a tech start-up because of what they have accomplished in the latter half of the last decade. Now that GM has been cleaned up, its time for the product that has been under development . That is also looking very positive based on what we have seen so far recently.

This quote exemplifies what Barra has done for GM. Best thing that has happened to GM in a while.

Mr. Akerson appointed Ms. Barra to lead GM’s huge product-development operation. She had begun her career as an 18-year-old intern inspecting fender panels at a Pontiac factory in suburban Detroit and spent much of her career in engineering roles inside GM’s factories. Still, Mr. Akerson saw the GM lifer as a change agent impatient with GM’s bureaucracy. As GM’s human-resources chief, she condensed a 10-page dress code down to two words: “Dress appropriately.”

One opportunity that I think Barra has totally missed out on is rebadging the Bolt as a Buick Encore EV, and selling it overseas. That is, if they are actually interested in selling the Bolt at all.

At least they have plans for EVs.  It seems like some of the other manufacturers are dragging their feet even worse.

The Bolt must have been too expensive for the Chinese market at the time. The Buick Velite 7 is the Buick version of the upcoming Bolt CUV.

Part of me wonders why they didn’t try to fix one of the initial complaints about the Bolt: the seats. A lot of reviewers say the seats are too narrow. You’d think that GM would have parts-binned as much of it as they could, including the seats.

I can understand not fixing the other issue - the slow charging time.  That’s more dependent on more expensive things to change.

A refreshed B olt with new exterior and interior (including seats) is also due to come along side the new Bolt CUV. Both were delayed for a few months because of Covid.

These are the teasers GM released a few weeks ago.

I’m just a bit puzzled on why they would wait 3+ years to refresh the seats. You’d think that addressing that would:

- B e a comparatively easy fix ( compared to fixing the slow charge rate)
- Generate some goodwill to the community (“Hey, we’re listening, and hey, we care!”)

I guess 4 years is better than not fixing it at all.
